“Dead Until Dark” Book Review

Posted on Updated on

Like what I said in my Facebook shout, “the series got me hooked and now I am reading the books”.

Yup, HBO’s True Blood series really got me hooked. It started in the first season of True Blood. I liked the concept, I loved the story and the opening credits really blew me away. So, I finished Season 1 with a satisfied heart. I let pass Seasons 2 and 3 but I still make myself updated with what is happening. Now that Season 4 has started, I got into to it  again. Into to it to the point of reading the original books by Charlaine Harris.

Just now, I finished the 250+ pages book by Charlaine Harris called “Dead Until Dark” A Sookie Stackhouse Vampire Mystery. This book was where the series was based on and I must say the book was great!

It described everything in detail, the parts of the TV series that I cannot understand. Well, I am a book person so I naturally like book versions more. But this was different because I watched the series first before reading the book.

Anyway, I like how Charlaine Harris writes. She made the book like a narration where Sookie Stackhouse was the narrating her experiences with the vampires and other creatures in Bon Temps, Louisiana.

Flashbacks of the TV series where running in my mind while reading the book and it was really helpful. But just any other TV series-book tie in, the story was different.

Not that different, OK. It’s just that the TV series became commercialized with all of those sex scenes. These scenes were part of the book but were not described just like the TV series. Also, Tara Thorton, Sookie’s best friend was not mentioned in the book. I read that she will be appearing in the second book, which I’m starting to read now.

All in all, I rate the book with 4 stars ( * * * * ). I like the story and the the way it was written and I particularly like the characters.
